Daily Itinerary
The first day of the journey will be dedicated to exploring the charming town of Machico and handling organizational matters: flight, arrival at the marina, provisioning, settling on the yacht, and a briefing. In the evening, we’ll go out for dinner at one of the island’s best restaurants.
During the day, we’ll anchor in the bay of the largest island, Ilha Grande, and go ashore to meet the island’s caretakers. We’ll observe local birds and their nests, take a short walk through the accessible part of the island, and visit the caretakers for coffee — they’ll show us their daily life and a small bird museum. In the evening, we’ll cook a delicious dinner on the yacht and watch the sunset from a new anchorage. We’ll spend the night peacefully at anchor.
The next day, we’ll set sail for Porto Santo Island — the passage will take around five hours. With a bit of luck, we may spot whales along the way. The Porto Santo marina is a well-protected harbor on the island’s southern side, sheltered by breakwaters on both ends. There’s an anchorage area and a small marina, and if we’re lucky and there’s space available, we’ll moor the yacht there.
Porto Santo is a beautiful and unique island — small, yet full of charm. It’s home to an endless white-sand beach that begins right where our yacht will be anchored. We’ll definitely go for a hike to explore the island on foot, enjoy its stunning views, and, of course, take some amazing photos for our social media!
Today we’ll sail back to Madeira Island, stopping by its northern coast to anchor in the stunning bay near the town of Porto da Cruz. Of course, this plan depends on the weather — the north side is exposed to wind and waves, so it’s only accessible in calm conditions. In Porto da Cruz, we’ll rest after the passage, have lunch, and then move to a more sheltered area for a safe overnight stay. Baia da Abra is perhaps the most beautiful anchorage on Madeira — we’ll arrive by evening, just before sunset.
Today we’ll explore Madeira Island on foot. From our anchorage at Baia da Abra, there are two excellent hiking routes: one leads to the easternmost point, São Lourenço, and the other heads north, offering breathtaking views from dramatic cliffs. While we debate which trail to take, the clever ones will stay on the beach, swimming in the crystal-clear, emerald waters of the bay.
In the morning, we’ll have time for a swim and then slowly get ready to sail back to our starting point — Machico. On the way, we’ll stop at Quinta da Lorde Marina, a beautiful and modern harbor on the island. We’ll make a short stop at the guest dock to refuel and enjoy lunch with an amazing view. Then we’ll continue our passage to Machico, where we’ll end the trip with a farewell dinner at one of the town’s best restaurants — sharing photos, memories, and stories from our unforgettable week.
On the morning of the 8th day, we'll wake up calmly, have breakfast, and leave the yacht before 9:00 AM.
